Italy - Angelina Mango - La Noia

7 - 268 pts, not in semi
Angelina Mango won the 74th Sanremo festival with her song La Noia (Boredom) written by Angelina Mango herself with Madame (Francesca Calearo) and Dardust (Dario Faini).
Dardust co-wrote the 2019 Italian entry Soldi and also appeared in an interval of the 2022 contest in Turin.

It has  been confirmed that Angelina will go to Malmö but she still has the possibility to change songs.

La Noia was released as a digital single on February 7 and can also be found on the Sanremo 2CD. Scroll down for all info on that.
A version with Álvaro de Luna was released on May 3. Álvaro sings his parts in Spanish. Álvaro's parts were added to the original recording.

A remix that appears to be official, the Hypaton remix, was released on July 18.

For promotional issues a box with a cassette, a yoyo and some candy is issued.
It has the original  studio version and a live version recorded on March 1 for Radio Italia Live (TV show). (LaTarma records)
Thanks Torsten!

A counterfeit cdsingle with remixes has been offered through e-bay, best to avoid, but it's up to you.

Poké Melodrama
Angelina's debut album Poké Melodrama is out on May 31 and it will include La Noia.
The album is released on CD, LP and vinyl picturedisc.
Thanks Alexandre!

Papa Mango & Mamma Matia
Angelina is from musical stock. Her mom is Laura Valente who was the singer for Matia Bazar in the 90's. So after Matia Bazar's Eurovision adventure but (and that's my personal opinion) singing on their best ever album Anime Pigre.
Mama Laura's Matia line up did Sanremo in 1992 and 1993.
Dad is Giuseppe Mango (1954-2014) who as Mango entered Sanremo seven times. He was also a prolific songwriter for singers like Mia Martini, Mietta, Loredana Berté and Patty Pravo.
At the 2024 Sanremo covers night Angelina performed her father's 2002 hit La Rondine which will also be included in her forthcoming album. (apparently it's not)

La Noia entered the Italian top 100 at #4 the day before the Sanremo final. Three Sanremo entries entered above that (Geolier, Annalisa and Mahmood) and stayed there for 4 weeks.

The 74th Sanremo
Italy's Sanremo festival (74th edition!) was held from the 6th to the 10th of February. The winner has the opportunity to represent their country in Eurovision. And most have said yes the past years.

30 songs competed. Returning Eurovision stars are Il Volo, Emma Marone, Mahmood of 2019 and 2022 and Diodato who was to appear at the cancelled 2020 contest. And not to forget Italian legends Ricchi e Poveri who ended 12th in the contest in 1978 with Questo Amore.
On the final night there was a special tribute to the 1964 winning entry Non Ho l'Eta by Gigliola Cinquetti.

Celebrating 60 years
In the past few the Sanremo contest has proven to be a paradise for record collectors and music fans with many albums and singles released in various formats.
Like in 2021, 2022 and 2023 (scroll to the end of each page) we will aim to track all physical releases of this years Sanremo stars. So you don't have to.
The cast of this year's Sanremo have 500 platinum records among them (Allmusic)

Marcus & Martinus Gunnarsen (earlier a.k.a. M&M) finished 2nd (behind Loreen) in Melodifestivalen last year with Air. (written by the same songwriters as Unforgettable).
The Norwegian twins' first claim to fame is winning the Norwegian Junior Melodi Grand Prix in 2012 with To Dråper Vann (Two drops of water).
They have released three albums since 2015 which all went to #1 in Norway and 2, 1, 1 resp. in Sweden. The latest one, Moments from 2017 also did well in other countries.

Songwriters
For Joy Deb and Linnea Deb Unforgettable is the third Melodifestivalen winner / Eurovision entry after Robin Stjernberg's You in 2013 and 2015 ESC winner Heroes by Måns Zelmerlöw. They also wrote many other preselection songs. I can highly  recommend Mellopedia if you want to find out more.
Jimmy "Joker" Thörnfeldt is one of the songwriters of Tattoo, has 24 Melodifestivalen entries to his name and also co-wrote this year's Austrian entry.
He also co-wrote Sweden's 2021 entry along with Cyprus and San Marino form the same year. In 2023 he also has his name under the entry of Cyprus.

MF In the charts
Below are the chart results of Melodifestivalen and Eurovision hits in the Swedish top 60 since 2002, when the 32 song MF was introduced.
In a sudden change, 2010 saw only a few entries released on cdsingle, and it showed decline in the number of MF hits.
Since a few years streaming is the main factor in  the Swedish charts so Eurovision hits chart without being released on cdsingle. Some only chart one or two weeks just after the contest.

2014: The official charts in Sweden have gone a bit crap, with Spotify and other steamers as a much too infuential source. This list is still the 'official chart' but we'll feature the digilistan as well.
The Digilistan is now the main (digital) sales based Swedish chart.
Changes in 2015: Melodifestivalen has only 28 entries and the official charts have gone up to a top 100.
Changes in 2016: The method for the official Swedish charts has changed again, now it is almost the same as the digilistan.
In 2024 Melodifestivalen changed to having 30 entries.

You can check your Swedish charts weekly at Sverige Topplistan.

Moldova - Natalia Barbu - In The Middle

digital release image
13 - 20 pts in semi 1
2007 Eurovision star Natalia Barbu got another chance to represent Moldova in the contest, this time with the song In The Middle.
She wrote the song herself with Khris Richards.
The digital single was released on January 19.

There are some tiny differences between the original version and the one on the Malmö album. (See comments, very well spotted "Top 17")

On May 10 a remix by Carnival Brain was released.
Carnival Brain are Anton Ragoza (of the Sunstroke Project) and Dimitru Golban.
The Softbeat remix was released on June 7. Softbeat is Moldovan DJ Sergiu Bitca.
The Veelantyne remix was released on July 5.

Natalia Burbu competed in the 2007 Helsinki contest with the song Fight and she finished 10th in both the (one) semi and the final.
See below for some more trivia on Natalia's 2007 entry and another National Final.

Moldova's Etapa Națională 2024 had its final on February 17.
The first selection of 32 31 30 songs was performed at a broadcasted live audition and a jury chose 11 entries to go to the final.
Malmö veteran Aliona Moon withdrew but moved on to the juries.
Several songs have been released as digital singles. Check your playlists at Spotify or Youtube. This TRM YT playlist has videos including all live auditions.

2007 Fight
From the Helsinki Collection Files:
Fight was only Moldova's third entry and the broadcaster didn't have much funds. The story was that they would only pay for Natalia's costs if she would make it to the top 10, otherwise she would have to pay for it herself (with some help from Catmusic). But in the end she did just enough to keep her out of financial troubles, fisnishing 10th in the final. (and later marrying a millionaire).

In 2013 Natalia had a song titled Confession in the Romanian selection. But she didn't make it to the final finishing 13th in the first semi final.

A remix by Planeet & Muul was released as a digital single on July 19.

All very nice, there's a name brand (Lay's) in the original lyrics so a change had to be made. The new version is on he Malmö official release but the digital single hasn't been changed.

Luxembourg Song Contest
On Januari 27 Luxembourg had their final with 8 songs, with three songs proceding to a superfinal.
You can find out more and listen here at rtl.lu. Or search for the official playlist at Spotify (Luxembourg Eurovision Song Contest by RTL radio Lëtzebuerg). All songs have been released as digital singles

Luxembourg's Eurovision is remarkable of course. Often accused of scouting their entries in other countries it worked well for them, clocking up 5 wins with 37 entries.

They gave us Vicky Leandros when Greece didn't participate yet and Poupéé De Cire, Poupéé De Son when France wasn't ready for a Serge Gainsbourg Eurovision song.
L'Amour Est Bleu (Love Is Blue) from 1967 became of the great evergreens albeit mostly in instrumental versions.
